The Joy of Weddings
It’s a New Year, and it seems like everyone is freshly engaged! I have seen so many hands with perfectly sculpted nails on social media feeds, showing off their new bling on that unique finger. Man! There have been some stunning designs recently! Seeing these newly betrothed couples and thinking about all the weddings we did this past year has me thinking about and feeling all the joy weddings bring. We have so much fun with our couples!
With so many small details to plan, vision boards and Pinterest are helpful. Deciding on colors, welcome bags and drinks, the rehearsal dinner, speeches, and small personal touches that make guests feel important and loved can sometimes feel overwhelming. But Tulsa has some genuinely outstanding wedding planners. I love seeing a wedding planner deliver the perfect comfort and style the bride has envisioned: sofas, lamps, table linens, flowers. Watching how a bride beams with joy when her wedding day is everything, she dreams of is very special. It brings me so much pleasure to participate in these special days.
This year, I have seen a lot of seriously cool personal touches – some have been around a while but have been re-imagined in current, stylish, and classy ways. I love personalized ribbons on champagne glasses, tea carts, cigar bars, and signature drinks. But the personalized touches that are so new and cool blew my mind. I recently saw a wedding that provided a late-night snack of Whataburger restaurant in the corner of the venue! Can you believe that? It was the coolest! AND WHO DOESN’T want to smell like pickles and onions after a late night of celebratory partying?!?! LOL!
Witnessing the delight and joy of the guests at having fast food at a wedding reminded me of the time we drove the trolley through a local chain drive-thru and placed a sizeable after-wedding meal order! The workers were THRILLED about that! But I didn’t care because it brought the newly married couple so much joy. Newlyweds should get to have fast food in the trolley on their wedding day if they want!
This past year, we have had some significant events and weddings! WOW! But honestly, I love small, intimate weddings, too. I remember one small wedding in Woodward Park – simple and sweet. It was beautiful, romantic, and memorable, all in its own right. We took them in the trolley from the hotel to Woodward Park for the wedding and then off to dinner. They experienced their wedding exactly as they dreamed it would be, just like the couples with big weddings. They felt the love and joy in the intimacy of having their closest people around them. The beauty of the commitment these couples make surpasses a wedding’s size.
Another emerging trend is the early wedding. Typically, a wedding starts at 2 PM or 5 PM, but last year, we had a bride who said, “10 AM!” she was not the first bride to do that. She said, “I do not want it to be an all-day process. Get up, get ready, get married, have lunch, enjoy some dancing, then change clothes, and oh, can you take us to the airport?” She was ready to go on her honeymoon and sit on a sandy beach. I could not blame her for that! (And, of course, we took them to the airport!)
Weddings are such joy! The small details, the style, the vibe, the personal touches, whether big or small, watching a couple’s dream wedding come true is an extraordinary experience. And to be included in that by our patrons is something I cherish and always will.
