Bussing into the Holidays
The school year has started, and the seasons are upon us: school season, fall season, and football season. So many events and special times with family and friends are coming up as we roll into the last four months of 2024. It was just January 1st, but now the weather is hot, and school buses are hopping along. The trees will start to change and be beautiful, brilliant reds, golds, and oranges before we know it.
This school year has been tough on me. No, I do not go to school, but my grandkids, my grands, do. I see so many changes with each of them. The oldest grand is a sophomore in high school. She comes over and cleans the trolley, bus, and van. She’s especially motivated when she is saving money for something. She saved up and bought her phone recently. Then, this summer, she came to clean for vacation money. I have another grand who has entered the 6th grade, and I see so many changes happening for her. She has become a young woman. I’m sure you remember being in 6th grade and how much you grew up that year. But it is not just those two; it is all of my sweet grands. It’s a new year with new friends and new learning to come. I can’t help but feel so excited for them on their life journeys, but I wish they could stay little for a bit longer.
I’ve entered a new season where I am trying to roll myself out of the driver’s seat as much as possible, but DANG IT! It is HARD! I still love what I do and meeting all of you. Being with you all during some of the most important, memorable, and fun moments in your lives and knowing I am helping make that day easier for you is such a joy. However, I need to be more available for my parents. One is 86, and one is 81. Both are doing well and, yes, still driving themselves. But there comes a time when you realize every moment you can help your aging parent or spend time with them is the priority. I’m at that place in my life. I am very grateful to have wonderful people who work for me and care as much as I do about delivering the best service possible.
If you did not know, I purchased a 14-passenger Sprinter van in March. Bert, aka Bertha, has been popular with corporate work and weddings, especially bridal parties. It’s a super easy comfort ride for that quick lunch or dinner to impress business associates but not break the bank. Save the bank for the steak that will be remembered. LOL!
Rolling into the fall, I wanted to tell you some fun facts about me.
1) Fall makes me sad, but I love the fall colors, especially the fall wedding colors. WOW! How’s that for a juxtaposition? LOL!
2) YES, I am a summer girl. Please give me all the shorts, sun, beaches, and cruises!
3) At heart, I want to be a farm girl. I have an annual garden where I can the fruits of my labor. And I have chickens, too. AND if you call me when I’m having my morning coffee on the porch, you can even hear the rooster crow.
4) I am still madly in love with my husband after only “3” years of marriage. We dated for six years before we married. We still laugh at or with each other daily. We are just silly together and find the smallest things to laugh about. Laughter and peace in marriage is truly the best. It’s what I wish for all of my wedding clients.
5) I love to cook! We eat at home more than we eat out because I love to cook THAT much! However, a girl needs to be spoiled sometimes, too. So, I know all the great steak houses around town. Just ask! LOL!
